BREAKING GROUND is an documentary portrait project showcasing the unyielding determination and grit of remarkable women who have shattered gender stereotypes to triumph in traditionally male-dominated careers.

The project features women from different walks of life who are linked by one characteristic: singular focus on success in their chosen field.

The project showcases Joan-Marie (a Rancher), Rosie (a Sculptor & Stone Mason), Zoe (a Mechanic, and Charlotte (a cowboy bootmaker).

Both Joan-Marie and Charlotte were shot on location in Lockhart in Caldwell County, Texas, and Austin, Texas respectively. Both Rosie and Zoe were shot much closer to home in the UK, in Durham and Manchester.

These women are the ultimate representation of what I want to show in my work. They are strong. Powerful. Beautiful. Uncompromising. And Singularly Focused.

Spending time with them left me breathless, and I’m so pleased that we were able to cross paths and create these images.
