John’s Boys: 2027 Tour Key Art

Brand new work to show you today! This is the key art for the amazing John’s Boys (@johnsboysmalechorus) 2026 Tour!

In 2024 I had the pleasure of shooting the choir for their 2025 tour - and it was an absolute delight to be asked back for their 2027 tour.

The shoot certainly had its challenges, not least how do you photograph 31 people on location, in the middle of the beautiful Welsh countryside, without it looking like a photo of a rugby team? The answer? You ask these strapping Welsh boys to bring some furniture from their houses/barns/farm land, and persuade them it’s a good idea to haul it 1.5 miles to the top of a hill. Then, you spend 25 minutes posing and arranging them, all whilst they look at you like you’re mad. Then, you ask one of them to tell a joke. And that’s how you get this shot here.

A few notes on the practical stuff - this is lit by a single @Profoto B10 on low power. This has two purposes. One, it adds a lovely little piece of fill light to correct for any shadows created by the sun, and two, it shows the subjects the exact moment I’m taking the shot, allowing them to relax between frames.

Big thanks to Aled at John’s Boys - and make sure you catch them out on tour!
